Kyoto Caffeination
Finding great coffee spots when I travel is always high on my priority list… So I am sharing some of the coffee spots I visited in Kyoto, Japan!
Living in Vancouver, there is no shortage of fantastic coffee spots, many of them locally owned and operated, that embrace the third wave coffee movement, with emphasis on the quality and origin of beans, as well as the craft of roasting and brewing. Last year, I lead morning women’s Java rides in the spring and summer, where we would ride a lap of Stanley Park, then visit a different coffee shop each week - We visited 18 different coffee shops, and there are so many more that we didn’t get to (the rides will be back in May, if you happen to be a women, riding bikes in Vancouver)!
When I travel, I always make sure I find all the coffee spots I want to visit at my destination in advance, and then highlight them on my Google maps (I use a coffee icon so it is easier for me to find what I am looking for when I look at the map). Of course, I was well prepared for my trip to Japan (November 2023), in particular Kyoto, as I had 10 days planned there.
Below is a link to a little map with 18 different coffee spots you can visit. Click on the ‘show map details’ for a list of places and you can even send the map to your phone for easier access if needed!
On my latest website post, I shared short descriptions and lots of photos from 11 coffee spots in Kyoto, plus one tea spot, because their matcha latte was so good! Below are a few of my favorite images - There are plenty more on my website.
Thanks for being here! I have a lot more to share from Japan, but I think I’ll take a trip down memory lane and share a few stories and photos from the trip that started it all - Lofoten Islands, Norway in 2017! I might even give old photos a new edit, as time permits 🤗.

You might have seen my other publication, Endurance Collective, which is all about my work, sharing my thoughts about endurance sports, cycling, coaching, women in cycling, bike fitting & sports nutrition. Noa is my personal newsletter where I share my travels, photography, food + coffee finds and cycling adventures. There is a fair bit of crossover with my work, but I wanted to keep things somewhat separate. I appreciate you being here, reading this and checking out the full articles on my website. I would really appreciate it if you could share this publication with friends who love travel, bikes, (celiac friendly) food and coffee!
